How to play mp3s on the a930
« Thread Started on Jul 2, 2006, 3:02pm »

I saw this on howard forums, worked for me :

To play MP3s on the A930:

*NOTE - You MUST have a Transflash or MicroSD card to do this*

1. With card in phone, go to Menu
2. Navigate to "Settings & Tools" section
3. Press #
4. Enter 000000
5. This is the first hidden menu
6. Press 0
7. Enter 8886573982
8. Press 4
9. Hit OK to any prompts
10. Exit back to the regular home screen
11. Take out your memory card, place in adapter, put in computer.
12. There is now a folder called MY_MP3s, put any MP3s you want in that folder.
13. Replace memory card into phone
14. Repeat steps 1-8
15. You will see a list of your MP3s, press OK to select each one you want to play.
16. Press left softkey to start the player
17. ENJOY!!!

I still haven't found a proper way to use the shortcuts on the face of the phone. As far as I know the proper media player will only play licensed music in wma format. I've tried converting my unlincesed mp3s to wma, the media player will detect it but will not play the music, is there a way to get around this with unlicensed music?

Sounds like a big fat PITA.

Mine will play all my WMA's. It wont play the one's I've purchased from online retailers like music.msn, Napster, Yahoo, ect... but if you just record them again with a program like goldwave they work fine.

Also with Goldwave and audicity you can easily change mp3's to WMA that'll play on your phone with smaller file sizes.

PITA.. negative on that. Try it for yourself.

The method works, but I prefer using the wma player and the convinience that comes with it. Thanks for the info on goldwave.

I just my a930 ands it awsome. They told me it played mp3s. Then they said it played AACs, but you're right they play WMA defautly. I use Rhapsody to DL my music. But I figured out how to get around the DRM protection. Using a little program called www.tunebite.com, it dubbs the songs at 4x speed and now you have unprotected mp3s, oggs, or wma. It takes alot of CPU power, so don't do anything while you're running it. I personally built a machine just that reason, and now have over 2000 songs and still using my 30 day free trial of Rhapsody 8-) . Now my wma files work just fine on my a930

has anyone tried renaming the extension on the mp3 to .mid? i created a bunch of ringtones with mp3's, renamed them, sent them to the phone via vzwpix.com, and they play just fine.

Ok, I have a 512 microSD, a cable and I am able to transfer files (mp3 format) to my ringtones and my sounds via bitpim. Is there a way to get these to the the my music folder to play as mp3? Or is there any way to put these straight in that folder from bitpim? My microSD card was purchased online and I do not own the microSD to computer plug-in.

Any help is appreciated.

I have tried to get to the hidden MP3 menu and I get as far as the service programming menu. I try to enter in the 0 but no other screen comes up to enter in another code. Any help?

I was just wondering if there isn't some...tracking... of where those WMA files originated. I mean, after all, it is a phone, and it would be no real effort to read the encrypted header information and send it back to the company, so they might be able to target ads to you...

I say this because I used a linux variant of an encoder to change my mp3 files to wma; the phone will not play them. If I use the hack listed above, I can listen to the files as mp3's.
